High-level Summary

Provide of order three highlights of activities in your team:

Community Interactions, Meetings and Workshops

DM supported the PCW in Tucson August 7-11. Dozens of talks were given and there were good interactions with the community. DM Scientist gave a presentation the the SAC which was also supported by other DM team members.

DM management team supported and had a good Joint Status review August 21 - 25th in Tucson.

Technical Progress

  • Reviewed the status of crowded fields processing (DMTN-258).
  • DMTN-227 was updated to better describe the Consolidated Database.

Science Pipelines v24.1, v25.0, and v25.0.1 were released. The Middleware graph builder and writer were rewritten to be more efficient and to handle spatial/temporal bounds better.

The implementation of the Pan-STARRS “pattern continuity” algorithm, previously specific to the HSC camera geometry, has been generalized to handle all CCD geometries. This algorithm forces the background at the boundaries between amps to be continuous. Now that it runs on LSSTCam geometry too, it can be used not only for improving background models, but also for validating LSSTCam gain stability and instrument signature removal.

The Alert Distribution prototype was set up on the USDF and the integration of the refactored image characterization and calibration PipelineTask with the Alert Production pipeline was successfully tested.

The second circuit has been enabled in the Summit computer room. Servers with 2 power supplies are now connected to different circuits controlled by different UPS. During the month of August, several tests were performed in the backup link to increase the power of the amplifiers at both ends (Colina El Pino – Cerro Pachón) There was a slight improvement in the BER, after the new configuration was applied. Several measurements were made in the different sections of the link, finding a new attenuation. Further maintenance will be scheduled.
