High-level Summary

Community Interactions, Meetings and Workshops

DM had a meeting free week September 25-29. Frossie Economou visited SLAC to work with the Qserv team on operational readiness and Yusra AlSayyad visited SLAC to work with campaign management and USDF team in general.

DM had a small representation at LSST@Europe5 where the DM Scientist presented the status of the DM science pipelines and the Science Platform. Talked to the community

DM is preparing for its October vF2F meeting - this will concentrate on any gaps in the DM end-to-end system.

Eric Bellm led a DM Science team discussion on multi-resolution cutouts in the Alert packets in response to a PCW discussion led by the ALerce broker team

William O’Mullane completed the Safe Zone training September 15.

Tim Jenness an dLUbbi Rasmussen are assisting with the IVOA meeting to be held in Tucson in November, Tim is chairing the LOC.

NSF visited the data center in La Serena including the basement to see the earthquake proofing and measurement device. They also visited the summit. Guided Connie Walker (NOIRlab Dark skies initiative) and others around the rubin summit.

Technical Progress

Automated, spatially partitioned, transatlantic transfer of raw images via Rucio was demonstrated at scale with HSC data. This is partly an operations achievement as well as construction.

The Middleware components were re-released with a dual GPL3 and BSD 3-clause license.

The DECam Saha Galactic Bulge dataset was successfully reprocessed at the USDF, demonstrating the Science Pipeline’s ability to handle very crowded stellar fields.

Default DRP pipeline switched over to using the scarlet_lite standalone package. This package implements the fast and robust single-pixel-scale version of Scarlet.

All requisitions for FY24 have been entered in the system for DM.
