Form to identify points influencing SCOC decision on 9 key topics

Dear member of the Rubin community,

We want to thank you one more time for your important contribution to the optimization of the Rubin LSST survey strategy. As you may know, the Survey Cadence Optimization Committee (SCOC) has released its second set of recommendations in PSTN-055. The SCOC has identified 9 outstanding points open for further exploration and refinement which the SCOC will work on in 2023 and through commissioning. These topics are described in section 4 of PSTN-055 and listed at the bottom of this message.

To ensure the SCOC has correctly and comprehensively identified within the white papers and cadence notes the community concerns and desired data and choices that may influence decisions on these nine topics, and that we have the most up-to-date information on these consideration, we would like to ask you if you wish to highlight and update any of the points discussed in your paper that would be sensitive to cadence decisions pertaining to the nine topics. If you do not fill in the form, the SCOC, as always, will still make its best effort to consider relevant factors connected with these nine topics based on the submitted white papers and cadence notes - the form’s purpose is simply to give you a voice and a chance to provide updates since those were submitted

To facilitate this work, we have prepared a form for your convenience - the form will remain open until June 7th 11:59PM Pacific Time.

  • Filter balance (rebalancing exposure time to compensate for performance and throughput)
  • Intranight cadence in the Deep Drilling Fields (DDF)
  • Galactic Plane/Bulge footprint and filter balance optimization
  • Uniformity of coadds within a rolling cadence
  • 2x15 vs 1x30 second snaps per exposure
  • Early Science
  • Availability of filters on the filter wheel
  • Target of Opportunity strategy

Dear member of the Rubin community, this is a reminder that we set up a form that you can use to highlight the white papers and cadence notes the community concerns and desired data and choices that may influence decisions on the nine topics the SCOC is tackling next (see above). The deadline set for the form is June 7th, 11:59PM Pacific Time.
If you believe you have important information to share through the form, but are unable to make the June 7th deadline, please contact your SCOC liaison if you are in a Science Collaboration or contact the SOCO chair directly by email (fbianco@udel.edu)
