Image Processing Time

I’d like some details on the complete journey of an observation.
Taking the image including the Trifid and Lagoon Nebulae as an example.
The general public knows that 5 gigapixels combines 678 exposures taken in only 7.2 hours of observation and was composed of approximately two trillion pixels of data in total.
I’d like to provide more information to the general public with these few questions:

  • What is the actual date of this observation?
  • How long did it take to process the data and produce the final image?
  • This may have been a trial run; will it take less time to produce future images?
  • What takes the longest to process for this type of observation?
