The official release of the lsst-dev01 server (the new ‘lsst-dev’ hardware and CentOS 7.2 OS) will occur Thursday Nov. 17, 2016 in the 8:00-10:00am CST window. This process entails:
-
the old lsst-dev.ncsa.illinois.edu will be renamed lsst-dev-old.ncsa.illinois.edu
-
lsst-dev.ncsa.illinois.edu will be set up as a CNAME to lsst-dev01.ncsa.illinois.edu
-
a two month transition period Nov 17, 2016 – Jan 18, 2017 begins, during which users may port applications/tools to the new ‘lsst-dev’ CentOS 7.2 system. In addition, users should copy any data and/or remaining files that they want to preserve from the local-to-lsstdev /ssd, /raid spaces. On Jan 19, 2017 the lsst-dev-old.ncsa.illinois.edu server will be decommissioned, such that users will no longer be able to login and the local /ssd, /raid spaces will no longer be available.
It should be noted that this hardware & OS transition is independent of (1) the migration of data off of NFS to GPFS and (2) the transition of home directories from NFS to GPFS. The schedule of these activities will be conveyed at a future date.
