As the process for International Partnerships via in-kind contributions has evolved, three major areas have emerged in which (1) multiple teams propose to provide different types of contributions in that area, and (2) optimizing the LSST scientific returns on these contributions requires the coordination of the in-kind teams, Rubin project staff, and the Science Collaborations and the community of data rights holders.
To enable this coordination, we propose that three new sub-categories in “Science” be created: “Photometric Redshifts”, “Crowded Fields”, and “Independent Data Access Centers”. These categories will host technical and scientific discussions and Q&As between all interested parties over the long term, as international teams work towards the delivery and integration of their contributions (within, e.g., the Science Collaborations, the Data Management science pipelines), and the science community works towards applications and results. Below, we have put a draft description for the new categories that would serve as their first topic.
About the [X] category.
This category will host technical and scientific discussions related to [X] for the Rubin Observatory LSST, including project deliverables, in-kind contributions, and community efforts. Everyone should feel welcome to participate by posting new Topics and threaded replies. This category will be moderated by [Y], who will endeavor to ensure no question goes unanswered.
