Research Inclusion Postdoc Position with Rubin Observatory

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to help Rubin Observatory engage with researchers, educators, and students at smaller and under-resourced institutions to improve diversity and research inclusion in astronomy, while conducting their own self-directed astronomy research.

Rubin’s Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), together with the Rubin Science Platform, will provide opportunities to reach groups that have historically not been able to participate in forefront astronomy research and education due to a lack of resources.

Therefore, NOIRLab and Rubin seek a research astronomer with experience in equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) programs to help build connections and understand the needs of smaller institutions and underserved communities, to ensure that the impending big data revolution is equitably accessible to all.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with NOIRLab and Rubin staff members supporting the Research Inclusion Initiative (RII), and be able to devote up to 50% of their time to supporting their own research program, ideally related to the Rubin LSST and its Data Previews (phases in which simulated or commissioning data are made available prior to the start of the LSST).

This appointment has funding for up to three years and will be based in Tucson AZ. Questions regarding this position should be sent to Dr. Dara Norman, dara.norman@noirlab.edu.

Applications received by July 15 will receive full consideration.
