RRB: Review of Alert Broker Classification Data Products

,

Brendan Mills [UCSB/LCO] gives an overview of a project he recently completed, gaining experience using the classification data products generated by different alert brokers.

He built a TOM system to gather annotated alert data on the same set of ZTF alerts from three different brokers, and compared the classifications produced to evaluate how often they agree, and whether combining information from different classification algorithms can be used to improve target selection for follow-up.

Brendan has produced a new plug-in for the TOM Toolkit called tom_classifications which includes novel data visualizations allowing TOM users to compare classifications.

This research is presented in more detail in Brendan’s poster at the PCW2022, and questions are welcome.
