Science Pipeline Release 26.0.0 Status and Discussion

We are starting the science pipelines release process for 26.0.0. The process will be tracked on ticket [DM-36466]([DM-36466] Do Release 26.0.0 of Science Pipelines - Jira and this post. Please check back for updates.

The tentative weekly for the starting point for the release is w_2023_32.
The tentative target date to close is 2023-12-01.

Release Precursor Steps

  1. Identify any pre-release blockers (“must-have features”)
    Contributors, please check if there are outstanding issues that must be included in the next release and relate them as blockers to the issue DM-36466.
  2. Wait until all blocking issues are resolved.
  3. Create Jira issues for each release activity
  4. Check that the weekly build is scientifically suitable to be used as the starting point for the release

Release Engineering Steps

  1. Create first release candidate v26.0.0.rc1

  2. Release candidate v26.0.0.rc1 available

  3. Build the release candidate on supported platforms. Report bugs in Jira if any.

  4. Invite developers, contributors, and downstream users to verify the release candidate and report bugs in Jira if any.

  5. Wait for bugs and additional issues to be identified, fixed, and ported to the release branch.

  6. Create new release candidates if bugs / new issues have been fixed in the release branch

  7. Create official release 26.0.0

  3. Gather Metrics report
  4. Update Known Issues
  5. Release availability community post

Release candidate v26_0_0_rc1 is now available based on weekly w_2023_32.
The MacOSX build fails as it requires the back port of [DM-40456] sphgeom is failing a test on macOS Ventura (13) on x86 - Jira, which will be included in RC2.
