Solar System Science Collaboration (SSSC) July Update

A brief update of SSSC (Solar System Science Collaboration) happenings over the past month. A more detailed version will be sent out on the SSSC listserv.

Status of LSST MOPS (Moving Object Pipeline System)- Mario Jurić (LSST Project Scientist for Data Management) has volunteered to give an virtual talk on MOPS development plans and LSST Solar System-oriented data products in August to SSSC members.

Working Groups: Over 30 people have joined the newly established working groups. In most cases we had one nominee per working group who agreed to run for the working group lead position and in the one case with multiple nominees they have agreed to co-lead. Since there would be a 1 candidate election, our proposal is to move forward with these nominated volunteers as the working group leads.

SSSC Roadmap - Over the next few months, we would like the working groups to start work on a new SSSC Roadmap to gather the collaboration’s science priorities, list the additional software and data products required to achieve these goals, and identify the high priority tasks the SSSC needs to take on over the next few years. In August, we plan to discuss with the working group leads how best to proceed on this.

DPS SSSC meeting - We’ve submitted a workshop proposal for the annual SSSC workshop at the October DPS meeting in Provo, UT. More details closer to the date.

LSST 2017 Project and Community Workshop - The workshop will be held on August 14-18, 2017 in Tucson. Registration closes on July 20th. More details can be found on the meeting website.
