Hi, I’ve been looking at visits in year 1 of the one_snap_v4.0 simulation and I noticed some periods of time when no visits are taken. In particular there are two gaps on nights 145 → 152 & 186 → 193. I presume these are just periods of downtime which were described here?
These are actually slightly different downtimes, as they are longer – these are the scheduled maintenance downtime intervals that have been in every simulation (including pre-FBS opsim simulations).
We did consider removing these from year one, especially in light of the additional downtime, however, they are part of observatory planning and we didn’t have enough information as to how that planned maintenance schedule might be modified in year one so took the conservative approach and decided to leave it in.
These scheduled downtime maintenance points are at fixed times in the year, and are extremely likely to be modified in reality.
Note that the same nights also have no visits in baseline_v4.0_10yrs.db, or any other simulation that has the same starting date as baseline_v4.0_10yrs (i.e. any of the v3.2+ simulations).
(side note: we will be updating that start time for the survey again shortly, as it currently is about six months ahead of projections).
