Several updates to the Forum’s high-level organization are being made.
Main motivations for these updates:
- declutter the Forum’s main landing and navigation page
- make user support more obvious as the primary functionality of the Forum
- reduce user confusion about where to post questions
These updates were discussed internally by Rubin staff before being implemented, but please do feel free to ask questions or leave comments in this thread.
Updates
For each change, some rough notes on the motivation are provided.
“News - Data Services” sub-category
- this category was recently created for announcements related to service issues for the Rubin Science Platform and related data services
- only Rubin staff members of the news_admins group may post in News
“Science - Citizen Science” sub-category
- created this new sub-category
- it will serve for discussions and Q&A on citizen science with LSST
“Support” category
- sub-categories have been re-ordered
- the draft rtn-097.lsst.io was recently created to provide guidelines for how Rubin staff provide user support via the Forum
“Equity and Justice Initiatives” category
- moved to be a sub-category of “Science”
- the motivation is that this category is not being used
- its recent topics should have gone in the “Science - Announcements”
- but, its not necessary to completely archive this category
- and, we hope it might get more visibility and use under “Science”
“Commissioning” category
- archived (Mon May 19)
- (had initially been moved to be a sub-category of “Science”)
- the motivation is that this category is not being used
- commissioning announcements go in News; they’re great
- users’ commissioning-related questions should go in Support
“Data Management” category
- slight update to the “About” description to reinforce that this category is for DM developers, and that the science community should ask DM questions in the Support category
“EPO” category
- archived
- the motivation is that this category was not used
- its recent topics should have gone in the “Science - Announcements”
- other communication channels are used for EPO
Category colors
- used to be random
- now a first attempt has been made to use similar colors for similar categories & sub-categories
- overall bit cleaner look than random colors, but, consider this a test
