2026-05-08 Early Operations Update

Week 28 of the Early Operations system optimization period

The Simonyi Survey Telescope has been off sky since 2 May for unscheduled engineering downtime to perform maintenance on the telescope azimuth encoder and the LSSTCam cryogenic refrigeration system. On-sky observations will not resume before 11 May.

The fourth of six panels for the light and wind screen was installed in the dome aperture slit on 7 May. The panel is currently secured to the tracks and stowed below the dome aperture opening while the mechanisms required to move the panel are being integrated and tested.

The next week is planned to be primarily pre-LSST observations, with a few targeted on-sky engineering activities to validate configuration updates for the active optics system (AOS).

The currently installed filter set is grizy with the next swap to remove y and install u planned for 12 May.
