Linking login accounts for the RSP

Hi there,
I have recently changed institution but still have data rights. I believe that in order to retain access to the RSP, I should link my RSP account to my new institution (following these instructions). However, when I try to link my account to my new institution, I get the following error: “SORID “http://cilogon.org/serverE/users/483722” is already associated with CILogon OIDC Claims No Pipeline”. I’m not sure if i’m doing something wrong, but any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot!

Hi Philip, thanks for posting.

Yes, before you lose access to your current institutional identity it is best to link a second identity so that you don’t lose access to your RSP account (we can always recover it though, of course). I don’t immediately recognize that SORID error, so we might have to get our tech team involved – but let’s try what’s below, to start.

First, can you confirm that you are still able to log in at data.lsst.cloud with “University of Oxford” as your identity provider. Second, what is your new institution, and do you get the same error if you try to use a non-institutional identity provider (e.g., GitHub, ORCID, Google)?

Hi Melissa,
Thanks very much for your reply - yep I can still login with my Oxford account - my new institution is the University of Portsmouth. I have just tried adding my ORCID account (rather than my Portsmouth account) via https://id.lsst.cloud/ and that seems to have worked successfully, so I can now login to the RSP with ORCID instead. Adding the Portsmouth account still gives the same error but since I can login with ORCID I’m happy to use that unless institutional logins are preferred?
Thanks very much again for your help,
Phil

Hi Phil, thanks for reporting back.

I’d recommend to go forward with ORCID – I suspect the issue with U Portsmouth might be unrelated to the RSP, and related to CILogon (the third party identity management service which institutes must join in order to appear on the drop-down list). You’re right that institutional logins are usually preferred, but it’s just not always possible, and that’s totally fine.

Since you will at some point lose access to your original identity, I’d recommend adding a third – GitHub is a good option.

I’m going to mark this topic as solved but as always, don’t hesitate to open a new topic for new or related issues, anytime.

Hi Melissa,
That sounds great I’ll do that - thanks very much for your help.
Phil
