LSST stack installation failure - sphgeom

Hi everyone,

I am trying to install the LSST stack using the newinstall.sh on a macOS Ventura 13.3.1.
I am following the instructions provided here: Install with newinstall.sh and eups distrib — LSST Science Pipelines

At the command eups distrib install -t v24_0_0 lsst_distrib, I got the error message at 18/85 sphgeom test phase. I tried several times, but it stopped at the same phase.
I looked up the code - …/sphgeom-xxx/tests/testBox.cc, but I don’t understand why this test failed.

Please help me overcome this difficulty.

This release is a year old. If you are using Apple Silicon it’s a good idea to try a much newer version. We regularly use macOS 13.3 (13.0 to 13.2 did not work because there was a bug in the Apple library loader) but do not test the old rubin-env and v24 with that macOS version.

If you use main of newinstall.sh you should get rubin-env 6.0.0 (released recently) and you can try to install w_2023_16.

As you suggested, I installed the latest version of LSST pipeline packages without any problem.

I recorded here my step by step.

  • get the latest install script files at github: github page
  • go to the extracted directory and run the install script: ./script/lsstinstall
  • set your environment as LSST: LSST_CONDA_ENV_NAME=lsst-scipipe-6.0.0 source loadLSST.zsh
  • install the pipeline packages, the latest version: eups distrib install -t w_latest lsst_distrib
