RTN-011 v6.0: Rubin Plans for an Early Science Program

A new version of RTN-011, v6.0 has been tagged and uploaded to zenodo. The document should be cited using same all-version DOI as before 10.5281/zenodo.5683848 . See also https://rtn-011.lsst.io/ for the latest issue of RTN-011.

This major release contains updates relating primarily to DP1:

  • A brief summary of the ComCam on sky observing, completed on 2024-12-11, and how it relates to DP1;
  • Details of plans to release DP1 as soon as possible following the Rubin First Look media event, and not before 2025-06-10;
  • Details of the DP1 data products, including a commitment to deliver DRP Coadded Images and Object Catalogs;
  • Details of new RSP functionality that can be expected at the time DP1 is released;
  • A revision of the Alert Production section. A new major release of RTN-011 with more details on the ramp up of Alert Production and the Prompt data products will be issued in a few months, before the release of the first Rubin alerts.

Thanks for posting the report! I noticed in Fig 3 that there are large white gaps in 47 Tuc and Fornax dSph. What are those from? Does that mean those parts were unable to be processed?

Yes, that’s correct. 47 Tuc is a dense globular cluster and the centre of Fornax dSp. is a crowded field. We’re still commissioning the pipelines in crowded fields. For DP1, any processing of crowded fields is on a best effort basis.

Thanks. Did these fields raise errors in the normal pipeline, were they too computationally expensive with the normal pipeline, or were they skipped for now for some other reason?
