A new version, v7.2, of technote RTN-011, “Rubin Observatory Plans for an Early Science Program,” has been issued and is available at https://rtn-011.lsst.io. This new version should be cited using its Rubin DOI.
This minor release updates the expected dates for release of data and services in 2026. First public alerts are expected in January or February of 2026 and the expected release date for DP2 is July – September 2026. We expect to release new version of RTN-011 in February or March with details of the expected contents of DP2.
“Due to ongoing technical development, the PPDB is not expected to become publicly available
before June 2026. Further details will be provided in future versions of this document.”
Will February and March have a better timeline for the deployment of the prompt products database? Not before June 2026 is pretty open ended given how important this piece of infrastructure is for early science. Is there a commitment from the Observatory to have the PPDP available before the end of 2026?
