Rubin Data Academy 2026: June 22-25, 2026

All Rubin Observatory enthusiasts are invited to join this year’s virtual Rubin Data Academy, scheduled for June 22-25, 2026.

The focus of this Data Academy will be getting started with Rubin data products and tools. Demonstrations will use Data Preview 1 (DP1), which was released in June 2025. DP1 is based on data from the LSST Commissioning Camera obtained over a seven-week period in late 2024. The Academy has been designed as an accelerated learning experience to enable users to do Rubin-related research. Sessions will feature live virtual hands-on tutorials focused on various aspects of using the Rubin Science Platform, DP1 data access, visualization, and processing. Additional sessions will be dedicated to describing the forthcoming Prompt data products and Data Preview 2, both of which are based on LSSTCam data and will be available to data rights holders soon.

The Zoom link will be posted on the event website shortly before the event.

No registration is needed to attend the Data Academy. If you do not already have a Rubin Science Platform account - which is required in order to access DP1 - start the process to get one today: ls.st/rsp-signup.

Student participation is encouraged.

Are Rubin data rights required to attend the Academy?

No, but Rubin data rights are required in order to obtain an account in the Rubin Science Platform, access proprietary Rubin data, and to work through the hands-on tutorials that will be presented. All are welcome to join the Zoom to watch and ask questions, but the Academy content may only be useful to people with Rubin data rights, or who anticipate having them in the near future. Learn more about the Rubin Data Policy.

To provide opportunities for attendees from all time zones there will be two sessions daily. All sessions are open to anyone. Detailed schedules (which might be slightly adjusted, as we finalize the program):

I would be very interested in “10. Solar System Catalogs: A Hands-On Tutorial About Solar System Data Products.”
Unfortunately, I am unable to obtain the necessary data rights.
