Rubin & Roman Synergies
This week’s assembly will feature two guest speakers. Michael Troxel will first give a brief summary of the DC2-based joint simulations in the Rubin Science Platform, then talk about more recent work developing improved joint LSST-Roman simulations. Then, Chien-Hao will talk about recent work on how these simulations can enable us to characterize how we can improve deblending in LSST imaging using Roman data and show how to interact with the LSST and Roman simulated data together at the image level. If time allows, a brief overview of a couple of Jupyter Notebooks that demonstrate how to obtain and combine Roman simulated data with Rubin’s Data Preview 0 datasets will be covered.

Guest speakers

  • Michael Troxel, Associate Professor of Physics, Duke University; Lead of MOU between NASA’s OpenUniverse, LSST DESC, and several Roman PITs producing joint LSST/Roman simulated data products.
  • Chien-Hao Lin, postdoc at Duke University working on joint-survey image simulation and analysis within OpenUniverse, LSST DESC, and the Roman Weak Lensing PIT.

Summary and recording of the Rubin Science Assembly 14 November 2024: Rubin & Roman Synergies

The Rubin Science Assembly on 14 November 2024 featured two guest speakers: Michael Troxel and Chien-Hao Lin. Troxel gave an overview talk on “Enabling LSST-Roman science now” with synthetic Roman+Rubin surveys. Chien-Hao walked through a de-blending use-case demo on the simulated Roman+Rubin survey data in the RSP.

Chien-Hao’s notebook and additional science use-case demos of simulated Roman + Rubin data created by Melissa Graham can be accessed here: Roman + Rubin Jupyter Notebooks
