Updating Rubin Acknowledgements to include what is suggested for when there is accessible Rubin data

Hi,

Looking at the Data Rights document it says

DPOL-306 Acknowledgement: All papers that use LSST proprietary data should include an acknowledgment that it was prepared in a manner consistent with the Data Rights and Access policies laid out in this document. The intent of the above requirement is to raise awareness of the LSST data rights and access policies, and to avoid accidental violations. An example of an acceptable statement is:

“This publication is based in part on proprietary Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) data, and was prepared in accordance with the Rubin Observatory data rights and access policies. All authors of this publication meet the requirements for co-authorship of proprietary LSST data.” A minimum acceptable acknowledgement for papers including proprietary or public LSST data will include acknowledgement of NSF and DOE funding of Rubin Observatory and LSST science as well."

This isn’t mentioned in How to cite Rubin Observatory page. With DP1 coming soon and the start of the survey expected later this year, would it be possible to update this page so it’s clear what is expected for those writing early science papers?

Thanks

It also looks like the Name use guide button doesn’t link anywhere it seems to refresh the current page.

We also want to update the citation guide to tell people to cite the LSSTComCam DOI when using DP1 data (doi:10.71929/rubin/2561361).

Thanks all.

This page has been updated: How to cite Rubin Observatory | Rubin Observatory

Added: “This publication is based in part on proprietary Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) data, and was prepared in accordance with the Rubin Observatory data rights and access policies.”

  • But, I did not include: “All authors of this publication meet the requirements for co-authorship of proprietary LSST data.” because that gives the wrong impression that all co-authors must have Rubin data rights, which is in direct contradiction to Section 8.1 “Collaboration with non-users”. Individuals without data rights are allowed to co-author papers; they are just not allowed to have or analyze proprietary data the papers are based on. I will raise this discrepancy with the authors of the Data Policy document.

Updated the link to the new Name Guidelines page.

Added the new DP1 DOI under “Citable publications - Future data releases” and also added a placeholder indicating there will be more.

Thanks, Melissa.
