Changes to LSST pipelines binary distribution

We’re excited to share some significant updates regarding our software build platform in Jenkins.

Starting w_2025_05 we will be supporting executables for Linux aarch64 and Apple silicon chips. We have successfully expanded our Jenkins platform to build and upload tarballs to eups , and they can now be downloaded directly from our websites or using eups distrib install. To enable this feature, you must first ensure you have the latest lsstinstall script. Please follow the instructions located here. You can download the products using eups distrib install using any tag after w_2025_05 and d_2025_01_29, e.g. eups distrib install -t w_2025_05 lsst_distrib

Important Changes for Intel Mac Users
As we move forward with our platform optimization efforts, we will be phasing out support for Intel-based Macs starting March 2025. This means we will also no longer support MacOS 12 and 13. This transition means:

  • Binary distributions for Intel Mac architecture will no longer be generated
  • Our internal testing platform will no longer include Intel Mac systems.

For those of you currently using Intel-based Macs, you can still build the software locally, but please be aware that we cannot guarantee that it will continue to work as expected.

What does this change mean for container distributions (i.e., lsstsqre/centos and the upcoming ghcr.io/lsst/scipipe)?

Container distributions (which are Linux-only) have already started including both x86 and ARM architectures, transparently to users.
