New categories and tags for brokers

Hi, it seems that some brokers have their own categories and tags for user support.
In ALeRCE, we would like to request the sub-category Support->ALeRCE and the tag ‘alerce’.
Would it be possible to create them? Perhaps the same could be done for all brokers
Thanks! Francisco

Absolutely, we can make a sub-category in Support for any broker or IDAC who requests to use the Rubin Community Forum for their user support. This is not mandatory, and brokers can use any interface they want for their user support.

The first step is to review Rubin’s “Guidelines for User Support with the Forum” (RTN-097), and especially the section “For brokers and IDACs”? Then confirm that is all understood, and let me know who from the Alerce team to add to the Moderators group (only so that they can mark solutions, they should not need deal with flagged posts).

Then, I’ll need the blurb for the “About the Alerce category” post. For example, see the one for Lasair. Just the text you want to appear above “New to community.lsst.org?”, as everything below that is standard.

Regarding the blurb, please us the following:

User support with the ALeRCE Alert Broker ( ALeRCE & LSST | ALeRCE)

All are welcome to post questions about ALeRCE, a broker designed to process and analyze Rubin alert streams for transient and variable astrophysical sources. Topics may include how to use ALeRCE services such as the Python client, API, TAP service, and Explorer, how to optimize workflows for time-domain science, reporting suspected issues, or any other ALeRCE-related questions.
The Rubin-enabled version of ALeRCE is now publicly available and actively processing alert data.
Please note that recent updates to the Rubin alert stream currently limit some system capabilities. We are working closely with the Rubin team to complete end-to-end validation.
Users are also welcome to submit suggestions and report bugs in this forum.

Hi Melissa, would it be possible for Alejandra Muñoz, Francisco Förster and me to serve as moderators of the group? If only one moderator is needed, Alejandra would take that role.

Hi @guille, thanks for this.

The Support-ALeRCE category now exists: community.lsst.org/c/support/alerce.

When you link it as ALeRCE’s user support venue from the ALeRCE webpages, I recommend also linking your users to this “how to ask a question in the Forum” topic, which encourages question-asking and provides some instructions.

I’ve given @ale_munozarancibia’s account Moderator status. Alejandra, ignore all the Forum notifications about moderating posts, Rubin staff handle that. The Moderator status is just to give you the power to mark solutions on topics in the Support-ALeRCE category, because in the Support category and sub-categories we aim for 100% of topics to have marked solutions. Please also review Rubin’s “Guidelines for User Support with the Rubin Community Forum” document (RTN-097) at your earliest opportunity, let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks ALeRCE team!
