Stuck in a loop when trying to log into data.lsst.cloud

'm trying to log into the https://data.lsst.cloud/ and getting stuck in a loop:
data. lsst. cloud page => cilogon page => stanford logon => “Self Signup With Approval” => cilogon page (github selected) => id.lsst.cloud (with red error box) => back to data.lsst.cloud
How is this supposed to work?

It looks like you’ve got two RSP accounts (no worries this is not unusual and easy to do with this system).

The first was created in 2023 and uses Stanford University as your identity provider, with a last apparent login Mar 20th of this year.

The second was started Thu Jul 3 and approved earlier today, and uses the identity provider GitHub.

I think if you can still login with Stanford, and have never logged in with GitHub, then I will expunge your GitHub so that you can add it as a secondary identity and sign in to the same account with either identity in the future.

If, on the other hand, you also can’t login with Stanford it’s a different problem and we’ll figure it out.

Thanks. I think that I have logged in with both. But yes, expunging the git hub one and linking it to the account seems right.

But, I’m not understanding why I can’t get to the portal with either account.

OK thanks Eric. If you also can’t login with Stanford, expunging the new GitHub account is not going to help. From what I can see in the system, there’s no issue with either account. Going to data.lsst.cloud and clicking on one of the panels or “log in” should not redirect you to “Self Signup With Approval”.

Given that you’re starting with Stanford, like Jim is (this post), maybe it is the same underlying issue here (something with the Stanford connection). I’ll bring this to the attention of the technical team.

What if you try to login first with GitHub?

Update: may I ask that you try to log on with your Stanford identity at cilogon.org?

A successful login should look as it does for me:

If that does not work, the underlying issue is with Stanford. If it does work, the issue is with the RSP and we’ll continue to follow up.

Yes, I can log on to cilogon.org using stanford identity.

OK thanks. And if you try to login to data.lsst.cloud first with GitHub instead of Stanford? (I’m just trying to gather more info for our tech team to help with the diagnosis).

Sounds like the problem is you pick Stanford and then Github according to what you say.

I recommend also following along with the video in the link above.

In any case, you (specifically you @eacharles) already have two separate RSP accounts. One of them is certainly associated with Stanford but had an incomplete enrollment flow (from 2023). One is with your Github account. I have removed the Stanford one. Please log on with your Github account, use only GIthub on all questions, and after you are in (and only then) , at your convenience visit this page Linking additional identities — Rubin Science Platform to link your Stanford identity.
